Applix Linux Division has established a pre-release program to provide early access to the next version of their office suite for Linux. The new version, Applixware Office Version 5.0, uses GTK+ widget kit to provide a modern, themable and extensible user interface. It also provides closer integration with Linux desktops, allowing users to drag and drop files from GNOME and KDE desktop environments into Applixware Office documents. The pre-release program is available on the SmartBeak.com website, where users can post issues or questions and track bugs. Applix plans to continue using open source practices in future product developments.
