Lineo Acquires United System Engineers to Expand Embedded Linux Support for Non-Intel Platforms

Lineo, Inc., a leading developer of embedded Linux system software, has announced that United System Engineers (USE), a custom systems engineering company with 15 years of experience in embedded system engineering for some of the largest technology vendors in the worldwide embedded system market, will be acquired by Lineo. USE specializes in embedded printing, networking and support for multiple chip architectures, including MIPs, Hitachi, SPARC, Motorola and Intel. The acquisition expands Lineo's ability to run its Embedix Linux operating system on these platforms, providing OEMs with expanded hardware platform options.

USE has an extensive background in a number of other operating systems, including UNIX, OS-9, NeXTStep, DOS and Windows. With the new office in Japan, Lineo can better service OEMs in the Pacific Rim, a highly-concentrated OEM region. This is the third company that Lineo is purchasing.

In February, Lineo announced its intent to acquire Zentropix and Rt-Control, providing the Lineo Embedix product family with hard real-time solutions and the ability to embed Linux in small microcontrollers. USE has 27 employees and will remain in place and augment the existing Lineo professional services organization by supporting and enhancing custom engineering work. With the addition of the office in Shiojiri, Japan, Lineo now has sales, services and engineering offices in Utah, Washington, Virginia, Toronto, Taiwan, the UK and Japan. About Lineo, Inc.
