Lineo Acquires FirePlug Computers to Expand Embedded Linux Support

Lineo, Inc., a leading developer of embedded Linux system software, announced its intent to acquire FirePlug Computers, Inc., a Canadian company that develops embedded Linux network application software solutions. The acquisition will expand Lineo's product offering and provide OEMs with the development tools they need to produce smart appliances and other embedded devices. FirePlug's flagship product, ThinLinux, is a compact Linux distribution that simplifies the process of prototyping and duplicating applications systems. The acquisition will also allow Lineo to grow its embedded system software business more quickly and effectively than as separate companies.
