Axis Communications has released the first open source code for the Journaled Flash File System (JFFS), a production-quality filesystem that allows Linux devices to store information on Flash-ROMs. The JFFS is designed to provide crash-safe memory and support fast system boot-up, making it ideal for embedded systems without hard drives. The source code is available under the GNU General Public License (GPL) on the Axis Developer Web site. Red Hat is excited about the development of the JFFS and believes it will bring great value to the embedded environment. Developers can take advantage of Red Hat's cross-platform open-source development IDE for creating applications that are portable across a wide range of emerging computing devices.
