SuSE Linux for Apple PowerPC: A New Era in Open Source Software
April 07, 2000
SuSE Linux AG and MacTech Magazine announced today that a free distribution CD of SuSE Linux for the Apple PowerPC will be included in the June 2000 issue of MacTech Magazine. The CD will be a fully working distribution of Linux on the 2.2.14 kernel, with SuSE's powerful installation tool as well as other open-source software. This release utilizes SuSE's knowledge, successes, and technologies from their existing distributions.
The user can look forward to a simple installation and a user-friendly configuration at the end of the setup. To celebrate the launch of SuSE Linux for the PPC, MacTech Magazine will be offering a limited time, special subscription price. Subscribers can begin new 12-month subscriptions or renew existing subscriptions before April 25th at the special rate of only $39.95 (US domestic rate, US$59.95 for Canadian, $89.95 for international rate). The full version will also be available through SuSE and resellers, at a suggested retail price of $49.95. This press release is newsworthy for a news site that is focused on free software and open source as it brings the first fully engineered version of Linux to the Apple PowerPC platform.
