IBM Launches New Software Products to Integrate Linux Applications into the Enterprise

IBM is launching new software products that will provide high-speed connections between Linux applications and S/390 data, transaction, and messaging services; data management and web-serving capabilities for Linux applications; Java; and Tivoli management support. The IBM middleware for Linux for S/390 will give customers flexibility to use Linux as a web server to link mission-critical applications running on S/390 operating systems directly to the Web. Customers also can take advantage of S/390 reliability, security, scalability and nonstop operation to run Linux applications concurrently with other line-of-business applications, such as enterprise resource planning, customer service, and supply chain management. The new middleware capabilities will increase the integration and performance of the Linux applications running on the S/390. IBM is also offering availability beta versions of several software products that will be available in the third quarter of 2000. The release date for Tivoli Storage Manager Client for Linux for S/390 will be announced later this year.
