Phoenix Object Basic: A New RAD Tool for Linux Developers

Janus Software has released Phoenix Object Basic, a Linux native Rapid Application Development tool that combines 'visual programming' with the familiar Basic programming language. The tool allows developers with Visual Basic experience to start developing for Linux without having to face a steep learning curve. Phoenix uses the familiar visual design paradigm and has a full implementation of the Basic language. The company is working hard to remove third-party components from the codebase and plans to share the source code with the user community in the first quarter of 2001. Phoenix Object Basic is available under a shareware license until then. Janus Software's mission is to bring easy-to-use, powerful applications to Linux that combine the best elements from the Unix and Windows traditions. The company works with partners throughout the US and Europe to fulfill this mission. Phoenix Object Basic can be downloaded from the Janus website.
