Loki Software has announced an agreement with Sierra Studios to bring the highly-anticipated Tribes 2 to Linux.
Loki is porting this first-person action game alongside the Windows development and is now accepting beta tester applications for the Linux version. Building upon the award-winning Starsiege Tribes, Tribes 2 offers unprecedented innovations to team-based play and in-game communications. In massive and breathtaking worlds, players can fight alongside more than 60 others with all-new weapons and vehicles. With single player and multiplayer game modes, gamers have a wide selection of play modes and missions, including capture the flag, siege, deathmatch and even bounty. A completely new graphics engine adds tremendous depth and unparalleled replayability to Tribes 2.
Players can also generate their own sophisticated maps "on the fly" using a revolutionary terrain editor embedded within the game. Tribes 2 will have a near-simultaneous release for the Linux and Windows versions. Loki Software is a premier publisher of commercial games for the Linux operating system, while Sierra Studios is a leading provider of interactive gaming experiences. Both companies are well known in the free software and open source community.
