CNET Networks Acquires AppWatch: Enhancing Total Linux Offering

CNET Networks has acquired AppWatch, a leading directory of thousands of pre-tested Free Software and Open Source downloads, including Linux distributions, drivers, utilities and applications.

The company will integrate AppWatch's downloads within the business channels of its ZDNet.com and CNET.com Web sites, providing its audience of millions of IT professionals a robust, current source of powerful business applications. Linux and Open Source applications are becoming increasingly popular among today's IT professionals, who are drawn to their power, flexibility and affordability. According to International Data Corp., the Linux market is expected to reach more than $11 billion by 2001. CNET Networks has made several strategic acquisitions in the Linux marketplace, including AppWatch, LinuxDevices and Linux Hardware Database. With these three acquisitions, the company is now able to provide turnkey hardware, software and community solutions to all segments of the Linux marketplace.
