Linus Torvalds to Publish Book on Linux Growth

HarperBusiness will publish a book by Linus Torvalds, creator of Linux, in 2001. The book will combine autobiography, technological insight, and business philosophy in an account of the phenomenal growth of Linux. Now used by over 12 million people, Linux has challenged the hegemony of commercial operating systems and set a standard for open source principles and cooperative development. Torvalds himself continues to control the essential 'kernel' software, receiving and orchestrating contributions from a core group of programmers around the world. The book will provide insights into Torvalds' experiences and philosophy that have driven him to develop and devote himself to the Linux code.
