SuSE Linux has released the first Linux operating system for Intel's Itanium-based systems. This port emphasizes SuSE as a leading provider of server solutions for demanding enterprise clients worldwide. The release includes SuSE Linux 7.2 Professional and provides a basis for evaluating and deploying Linux on Itanium systems in professional server environments.
SuSE Linux 7.2 for IA64 is based on state-of-the-art Linux technology, including the latest Linux Kernel 2.4.4. The package includes 1,500 applications on 6 CD-ROMs and provides tools for setting up WWW, proxy, mail, and news servers in Linux. It also supports large files up to 4 TByte and has a wide array of development tools. The SuSE installation and configuration program YaST2 is a powerful tool for user and system administration.
