Red Hat Linux 8.0 and SuSE Linux 8.1 have been certified by LSB, a workgroup under the Free Standards Group that standardizes the core functionality of Linux and the suite of GNU tools. This certification allows developers to focus on increased functionality and end users to deploy applications on any LSB-certified platform. The LSB encompasses much more than a written standard, including a test suite, sample implementation, and developer tools. The Free Standards Group is an independent, vendor-neutral organization dedicated to accelerating the use and acceptance of open source technologies through the development, application, and promotion of standards. Red Hat and SuSE are both leaders in the Linux distribution market and have achieved LSB certification for their products.
