Macrovision and MontaVista Partner to Enable Digital Rights Management on Linux-Based Consumer Electronics

Macrovision Corporation and MontaVista Software, Inc. announced that Macrovision has ported its MacroSafeTM secure media DRM solution to the MontaVistaTM LinuxΔ OS and both companies are working to support DRM functionality in the newly launched MontaVista Linux Consumer Electronics Edition. The partnership will facilitate the adoption and implementation of the MacroSafe DRM technology in the embedded systems and consumer electronics markets, helping speed up the development of embedded consumer electronics products, lowering development risk, and offering content owners additional secure distribution alternatives. The market for consumer electronics is growing rapidly, with Linux projected to reach $149.6 million in shipments by 2006. MontaVista will continue to provide value-added solutions, such as DRM enablement through strategic partners like Macrovision, to meet the needs of its customers in this market.
