Motorola selects Sleepycat Software's Berkeley DB for new Chinese smart phone

Motorola has selected Sleepycat Software's Berkeley DB for use within its new Motorola A768 Smart Phone just released in China. The latest Motorola A768 smart phone, designed for corporate users, follows the successful launch of the Motorola A760 model last fall.

This news is significant as it shows the growing adoption of open source software in the Chinese market and Motorola's commitment to integrating these technologies into its products. The A768 smart phone is powered by three key embedded, open source technologies: Sleepycat's Berkeley DB high performance data management engine, MontaVista Software's Linux operating system, and Trolltech's Qt/Embedded framework for user interface development. These technologies provide the A768 with a range of features such as PDA capability, MP3 music playback, full-motion video recording, speaker phone and finance utilities. The A768 also offers new functionality such as 96MB of system memory; 4,000 record phone book; 5 hour voice recorder; and up to 60 minutes of video. It also includes an HTML browser with zoom in and zoom out capability. In addition, the A768 is a full enterprise solution mobile device that supports various document formats and provides secure wireless access to corporate network resources.
