Open Development Process Yields New Open Motif with over 25 Bug Fixes

Integrated Computer Solutions, Inc. (ICS) announced the release of Open Motif 2.2.3, a publicly licensed version of Motif, the industry standard user interface toolkit for UNIX systems.

The new release includes over 25 critical bug fixes requested by developers of enterprise applications. ICS led a worldwide team of developers and brought to bear several hundred person-years of experience in providing this latest improvement to Open Motif. The successful development of this new release assures that Open Motif will continue to evolve to meet the needs of mission critical applications developed for Unix and Linux systems. ICS will make the Open Motif 2.2.3 updates available as a commercial Motif product on UNIX workstations including Sun, SGI, IBM, and HP.

The first customer shipment of ICS's commercial version of Motif will occur in July of 2004. As part of the open process of developing Motif, The Open Motif Development Team also announced that Open Motif 2.2.4 has moved from the Specification to the Implementation stage and that a Preliminary Specification for Open Motif 2.3 has been released. The Open Motif 2.3 specification calls for the enhancement of Motif to support anti-alias fonts, image support (jpg/png), wheel mice, and UTF8 fonts. It is used on more than 200 hardware and software platforms including HP, IBM, Linux (Red Hat, Mandrake and SuSE), SGI, and Sun. Open Motif is the publicly licensed version of Motif.
