After 3 years of development and testing, Ark Linux has released its first stable version, Ark Linux 2005.1. The distribution aims to be easy to use for those converting from other operating systems while maintaining technical soundness. It features the latest desktop technologies such as KDE 3.4, OpenOffice.org 1.1.4, glibc 2.3.4, X.Org 6.8.2, and kernel 2.6.11. The base installation CD contains everything an average desktop user needs, with additional tools available on extra CD images and in the online package repository. Experienced users can use 'apt-get' to install software from the repository. Ark Linux 2005.1 can be downloaded from the website using ftp, http, BitTorrent or EDonkey.
