OpenPKG releases version 2.5 of its software packaging facility for Unix operating systems

The OpenPKG project releases version 2.5 of its software packaging facility for Unix operating systems. This release includes new features such as support for the latest versions of popular Open Source Unix software and migration from GCC version 3.4 to the latest version 4.0. The OpenPKG package repository has grown to 904 packages, with a subset of 579 carefully selected for inclusion in this release. The project is supported by the OpenPKG Foundation e.V., which contributed technical resources and manpower to the development environment for release engineering. This version is available for 19 different Unix platforms, including FreeBSD 5.4 and 6.0, NetBSD 2.0.2, Debian GNU/Linux 3.1, Fedora Core 4, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4, SUSE Linux 10.0, Sun Solaris 9 and 10, FreeBSD 7.0, Gentoo Linux 1.12, Mandriva Linux 10.2, IBM AIX 5.1, HP HP-UX 11.11, MacOS X 10.3, and is maintained and improved by its original developers and volunteer contributors.
