OpenMotif 2.3 Released with Major Enhancements and Bug Fixes

The beta release of OpenMotif 2.3, a major version of the publicly licensed version of Motif, was announced today by the OpenMotif Project Team.

The new version includes major feature enhancements and over 25 bug fixes requested by developers of enterprise applications. OpenMotif is used in thousands of mission-critical applications such as the MBTA subway system in Boston, NASA Mission Control systems, FAA air traffic control systems, and homeland security and USA defense applications. Integrated Computer Solutions (ICS) hosts the official development tree for OpenMotif at http://www.openmotif.org. The new feature highlights of OpenMotif 2.3 include client-side anti-aliased fonts supported via XFT UTF-8 and UTF8_STRING atom support, ability to show text and pixmaps in Label, LabelGadget, and all derived widgets, and support of PNG and JPEG image formats in the same way as XPM is supported.

Motif is the industry standard graphical user interface toolkit (IEEE 1295) used on more than 200 hardware and software platforms including HP, IBM, Sun, SGI, and Linux (Red Hat and Novell SUSE). Commercial Motif is the release of OpenMotif for traditional UNIX workstations such as those offered by Sun, SGI, IBM, and HP. ICS offers Commercial Motif to maintain compatibility with OpenMotif.
