McObject has released Perst, an open source, object-oriented embedded database for Linux and Java. The database is known for its high performance, small footprint, and tight integration with Java, resulting in transparent persistence and ease of use. It is ideal for Java applications that require a modest footprint and fast, multi-platform data management. Perst classes enable efficient filtering of collection elements and implements specialized collection classes optimized for different data layouts and access patterns. The database also provides features such as garbage collection, automatic schema evolution, XML import/export utilities, master-slave replication support, and integration with AspectJ and JAssist AOP tools. McObject is now offering Perst as a free download for evaluation and non-commercial use, and spearheading its development in the open source community.
