Google Joins OpenWallet Foundation as Premier Member; MOSIP Contributes Code

The OpenWallet Foundation (OWF), an open source project that aims to drive digital identity, access, and payments through collaboration across industries, has announced Google as a premier member. This news comes just six months after the OWF's launch and underscores the growing recognition of the importance of open source software for wallets.

As a global leader in the wallet space, Google Wallet will bring its expertise to the OWF community and work towards creating a healthy wallet ecosystem that prioritizes privacy and security. In addition to Google, the OWF has also received its first code contribution from Modular Open Source Identity Platform (MOSIP), which is an open source platform for implementing digital identity systems at a national scale. This contribution will kickstart the development of critical components of an open source software engine for portable and secure digital wallets. The OWF, hosted by Linux Foundation Europe, provides a safe harbor for companies, non-profits, and the public sector to create open source software for interoperable digital wallets together. With Google's membership and MOSIP's contribution, the OWF is taking another step towards driving digital wallet interoperability and innovation.
